For over 20 years, Pantone color of the year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including interior design. The selection process requires thoughtful considerations and trend analysis looking at history and current events to make an informed choice. This year, a lot has impacted the decision. So much so, that Pantone have chosen two colors to feature as the color of the year. These two colors also partner perfectly as interior design color trend combinations.
Illuminating / Yellow
Pantone color 13-0647 TCX or ‘Illuminating’ has been chosen due to its warmth and dependability, which relates to what people need this year due to the current situation. Pantone describes Illuminating as ‘a bright cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power.’ This color is optimistic draws upon the expression of hope and joy.
Yellow in interior design
Yellow can be a statement in any room, so start small. Pops of color and accessories are a good place to start and will breathe life into a room. Think of this color as an accent and don’t overdo the yellow decor. Soft furnishings are an easy way to incorporate this color into any neutral room, try incorporating some cushions onto neutral seating to bring this trend into your home. The color depicts ‘solid and dependable elements which are everlasting’ and can be paired with almost any other color. This color is practical and can be embraced by almost any home due to its feeling of calm.

Ultimate gray can be used anywhere in any home and can be dressed up or down depending on the interior design style. Whilst this color can be used in larger spaces, it can also be an accent color when choosing accessories. Although both colors work perfectly alone, they were chosen to be together and it is not to see why.
